Looking to post an acceptance on your LinkedIn? juxtapose magazine is a digital media start-up (what a mouthful) centered around the intersection of the AAPI and LGBTQ community. We write about the shows and movies we just watched, artists that we’re obsessed with, the cities and families we grew up in, and everything in between. We’re fierce advocates of acknowledging the unique experiences that being a queer AAPI inherently brings.
If you’re interested in working with bright minds, music and media lovers, comedian wannabes, and fast-paced ice coffee drinkers, look no further than juxtapose magazine.
staff writer
Our writers are the backbone of the juxtapose mag community. We care about the shows and movies you watch, your latest queer or asian celebrity crush, and the stories that you text your groupchat. If you care as much as we do about promoting culture and awareness, come grab a seat at our table.
this role is for you if:
you identify as a member of BOTH the LGBTQ+ and Asian community
have hot takes that you think we would benefit from hearing
have the bandwidth to write monthly posts (coordinated with your editor)
are passionate for pop culture and media relevancy
love to write and have a strong command of the English language (2-3 writing samples)
(while we are not able to provide compensation at this time, we are actively aiming to do so in the future. we understand that sharing your experiences takes a mental and emotional toll.)
We are currently looking for:
contributing writer
Interested in being published in juxtapose, but have commitment issues? You don’t need to have an open schedule or publish monthly as a contributing writer. You will have the opportunity to work with our marvelous editorial staff to craft your piece. Whether you have a one-off think piece or too busy of a schedule to contribute regularly, we’ll reserve a space for you to say hi!
editor
If the phrase “strong command of the English language” on job applications makes you say “hell yeah!” then we think this could be a match made in heaven. As an editor, you can call yourself a manager of the ingenious, and sometimes entertaining, articles that we publish. There won’t be any gaslighting, but you can gatekeep grammar errors from making it onto the juxtapose website.
this role is for you if:
you enjoy working with writers to bring out the best version of their work
understand how to write for an audience and can give text clarity and concision
are able to commit 5-10 hours a month to proofreading, editing, and communicating with both writers and the editorial team
adore the brainstorming process and will pitch ideas for relevant topics
social media manager
Do you love collaging and decorating your laptop cover? Yeah, we thought so. juxtapose is in demand of a social media team to curate content for our Twitter and Instagram presence. Bonus: We would also love it if you are an advocate for social justice and go beyond to understand the analytics on posts and trends.
this role is for you if you:
are familiar and comfortable working with all social media platforms
promote our writers’ posts and the juxtapose magazine brand
can create a social media calendar and organize content uploads
graphic designer
Hey, you’re the one who’s looking at color palettes on your laptop and critiquing logos when you walk down the street, right? juxtapose is searching for people that have great taste like you to create the visual content of our magazine.
this role is for you if you:
enjoy curating content and can do it digitally
are interested in creating images for the website and key art for articles
are skilled in working with Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Canva
have an eye for design and want to bring a creative edge to the magazine
website manager
Yes, you can be our person behind the computer, the handler, Ned to Spiderman, Alfred to Batman, Penelope Garcia to the BAU, or Wade to Kim Possible. (You get the idea.) juxtapose requires someone who wants to create the stable foundation for us to spill hot takes.
this role is for you if you:
are knowledgeable of the Squarespace formatting
love challenging the creative website building process under branding constraints
enjoy flexible work and can manage quick turnaround times for publishing articles
(bonus) have a web design background and can code for one-of-a-kind features
